This organization is very much a party with a
purpose. Our purpose is to give back to our
local community and the environment. The
following are some of the charities and causes that
we support through fundraising, donations and
community service. We encourage you to take a
part and help us make a difference!
Eternal
Reef Program The
eternal reef program provides a way for people to
create an eternal living legacy to commemorate the
passing of a loved one in a very green way.
The parrothead reef off the coast of Sarasota is an
artificial reef that is built piece by piece through
"reef balls" that are designed as both a habitat for
marine life and as a way to memorialize cremated
remains of a loved one.
As an organization we have opportunities for
volunteers to help families as they complete
the pouring of a loved one's reef ball,
assist with reef ball deployment and visit
the eternal reef.
Alzheimer's
Association We
support the Alzheimer's Association by raising funds
and building awareness through programs in the local
community. Join us as we raise donations through
events such as our annual Parrot Open golf
tournament and participate in the Alzheimer's
Association Memory Walk.
Alzheimer's disease is a progressive form of
pre-senile dementia similar to senile dementia
except that it usually starts in the 40s or 50s;
first symptoms are impaired memory which is followed
by impaired through and speech and finally complete
helplessness.
Someone
is diagnosed with Alzheimer's every 70 seconds. As
many as 5.3 million people in the US live with
Alzheimer's and by the year 2050 that number is
expected to triple.
Environmental
Advocacy
Our environmental mission is to help
our environment by applying our resources and
talents through volunteerism. Environmental activities are
organized and scheduled by our environmental
committee.
Look for our environmental programs,
such as the island cleanup, sea grass surveys, work
with Save Our Seabirds (SOS) and help with Mote
Marine as a way to get involved and do something
great for nature!
Toys
for Tots One of
the highlights of the year for SBPHC is the annual
holiday party toy drive which focuses on providing
gifts for the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots
Program. Every year we collect unwrapped toys
of all shapes and sizes to help make the holidays
extra special for local children in need.
The
mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for
Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys
during October, November and December each year and
distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to children
in need in the community in which the campaign is
conducted.
Pop Tops/Pull Tabs: Don’t throw them away! Save them all and bring them
to the monthly meetings. We collect them and turn them
in for cash which is donated to Alzheimer’s Association
towards our Memory Walk Fundraising. Just another reason
to drink more beer and Party with a Purpose!!!
Ink Cartridges: What do you do with your empty ink cartridges? Bring
them to the next meeting, we collect these and donate
them to local schools that get $3.00 per cartridge for
school supplies.
