Island Cleanup - September 2010

On Saturday, September 18th we had 60 volunteers at Bay Island Park to clean up the park and our three islands in the Bay.

It was a beautiful morning as the Parrot Head Navy arrived with Captains Bob Smith, AJ Collins and Paul Damico to transport us all to the islands to get ready with garbage bags and gloves. The islands were pretty clean except for the usual: beer cans and bottles, but we did find a couple lawn chairs, some large pieces of Styrofoam, and lumber. Manny waded around to the beach with a set of wooden steps. We collected 32 bags of garbage. A job well done!

One of our hard working clean up gals, Sheree Cade fractured a bone in her ankle. We all hope for a speedy recovery. Everyone did a great job trying to help make her feel comfortable before taking her back to the car and on to the hospital.

After the clean up was completed it was the "Chef's" time to take over. Dave and Phil once again did a great job with the burgers and hot dogs. Despite Sheree’s injury, it was a great way to end the project with good friends just relaxing on the beach or taking a cool dip in the water.

As always, we leave the islands with a great feeling of, "We did it!" Thanks again to all who helped to make this clean up a success. We couldn't do it without you all.
